Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and creative Director of Photography (DoP) to lead the visual aspects of our film and television productions. The DoP will be responsible for creating the visual style and mood of the project, managing the camera and lighting teams, and ensuring that all visual elements align with the director’s vision. This role requires exceptional artistic and technical expertise, with a strong focus on storytelling through imagery.

Key Responsibilities:

Visual Design and Execution:

  • Develop and execute the visual style and aesthetic of the project, working closely with the director to achieve the desired look and mood.
  • Create detailed shot lists and storyboards, planning camera angles, movements, and lighting setups to enhance the narrative.
  • Oversee the composition, framing, and lighting of each shot to ensure visual consistency and impact.

Camera and Lighting Management:

  • Select and utilize appropriate camera equipment, lenses, and lighting techniques to achieve the visual goals of the project.
  • Direct camera operators and lighting crews to ensure precise execution of the planned visual elements.
  • Make creative and technical adjustments as needed to address any challenges or changes during production.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Collaborate with the director, production designer, and other key team members to integrate visual elements with the overall production design.
  • Communicate effectively with the crew to ensure that all visual requirements are met and that the production runs smoothly.
  • Provide guidance and support to camera operators and lighting technicians, ensuring high-quality performance and adherence to the visual plan.

Technical Oversight:

  • Ensure that all camera and lighting equipment is set up, operated, and maintained according to industry standards and safety regulations.
  • Oversee the quality and consistency of the footage, addressing any technical issues or adjustments required.
  • Manage the storage and organization of footage for post-production, ensuring proper data handling and backup.

Creative Problem-Solving:

  • Adapt to changing conditions and challenges on set, finding creative solutions to achieve the desired visual outcomes.
  • Stay informed about new technologies and techniques in cinematography, incorporating innovative approaches into your work.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Film, Television, Cinematography, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience as a Director of Photography or in a similar role, with a strong portfolio showcasing a diverse range of projects.
  • Extensive knowledge of camera equipment, lenses, and lighting techniques, with the ability to create compelling visual narratives.
  • Excellent artistic vision and a strong understanding of visual storytelling, composition, and color theory.
  • Exceptional communication and leadership skills, with the ability to manage and inspire a team.

Desirable Skills:

  • Preference will be given to candidates who own their own camera, lenses, lighting equipment, and other relevant gear.
  • Experience with advanced camera systems and digital formats.
  • Familiarity with editing software and post-production workflows.
